One week prior I received invitation for interview with one alumnus in my area. We communicated through e-mails and he suggested few dates to meet. After agreeing on date and time I forwarded my resume for his reference. Before attending I took few mock with one of the General Education consultants. On the day of the interview, we met at a coffee shop both of us. The atmosphere was very casual and friendly. Since he already had hang of my resume, he had few questions in general. Otherwise, questions asked were very typical for Columbia interviews.

Columbia MBA Interview Questions asked:

  • Tell me about yourself
  • Why MBA and why now?
  • Why Columbia?
  • What impact / achievement have you had in your current job?
  • Do you have any questions for me?

I was interviewed by an alum from the Class of 2018. It was just like a general conversation, meaning that it was CV based mostly. Interview was set on Zoom since we had locked down a time to meet. I thought it would take 30-45 minutes, but my session ended in 20 minutes.

The Columbia MBA Interview questions he asked were generally:

  • Tell me about yourself.
  • Walk me through your resume in 1 minute.
  • Why MBA? Why now?
  • Why CBS?
  • What’s your plan B?
  • What was your experience with the GMAT? What score did you get?
  • What other schools are you applying to and why?
  • What are your long-term and short-term goals?
    • He wanted me to lay out in detail my long-term plan of what would be my competitive advantage.
  • What’s a time you failed?
  • Is there anything else you’d like me to share with the admissions team?
