TAS Interview Experience

TAS has a very difficult process of interviewing candidates and a rigorous process of selection. TAS has three rounds of selection process after submitting the application- Group Discussion, Case Study and Personal Interview with TAS Director.

Selection Criteria:

TAS generally selects 90% candidates from IIM’s and other Schools and Business Schools and 10% they have in-house selection process i.e. from TATA Group employees (candidate should have minimum 2 years of work experience in TATA). And the maximum age limit for applying in TAS is 27 years. It’s really very competitive to get in TAS personal interview round. They generally selects around 15-20 people for personal interview round and among them 5-8 people are selected finally. Group Discussion round is tough and lot of people gets knocked out in GD round. And in case- study round they pick up fairly large number of people.

Duration:

TAS Interviews generally lasts for about 45 minutes to 60 minutes.

Who takes the interview?

There are three interview panels. One is from Senior Management level and one is Vice President/MD of TATA Group and one is from TAS HR Group.

Nature of Interview:

TAS has a very rigorous interview process. The interviewers generally ask behavioural and general awareness questions. TAS interviews are not blind interviews. The interviewer’s will have your application, resume and evaluation of your case study and GD during the interview and the questions would be from them. TAS doesn’t focus much on technical questions. They actually want to check your knowledge and learning from your previous experiences. A cumulative weighted score of all these steps are used to pick the final successful candidates.

Question Areas:

The interviewer may sometimes ask questions related to finance, leadership, teamwork, communication and ability to articulate your future goals.

TAS Sample Interview Questions:

  1. Where do you see yourself after 10 years?
  2. What did you enjoyed in particular role of your job?
  3. Tell me your learnings in your previous job/profile?
  4. What knowledge you gained from this project?
  5. Tell me about a situation where you had to solve a difficult problem. What did you do? What was the outcome? And What do you wish you had done differently?
  6. Tell me about a problem that you’ve solved in a unique or unusual way. What was the outcome? Were you happy or satisfied with it?
  7. Tell me about a time when you experienced a loss for doing what is right. How did you react?
  8. Tell us about your current role, what makes your job interesting.
  9. Also, Tell us about your career progression till date.
  10. Tell us about your projects you did during college and what did you learn from it?

Be yourself and do not make fake stories during in your application, case study or during personal interview. TAS wants to see what you have learned from your past experiences and your knowledge. The only solution to crack such interviews is to be relaxed, keep your head cool and don’t panic or get confused about the questions. TAS class size is small that makes it very competitive and tough. For behavioural interview you can’t really prepare much. So our suggestion would be to go through your application essays, and few general awareness questions.
